The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has verified that the deep depression which was prevailing in the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal has become a cyclonic storm named 'Montha'. Presently the cyclone is heading west-northwest at the speed of 16 kilometer per hour and this has led the IMD to declare red and orange warnings for the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh on Monday, October 27.

🌊 Current Status of Cyclone Montha

As per the IMD's 25th bulletin issued at 2:24 AM on Monday, the location of the storm was:

640 kilometers east-southeast of Chennai

710 kilometers southeast of Kakinada

740 kilometers south-southeast of Visakhapatnam

860 kilometers south of Gopalpur (Odisha)

By 2:30 AM, the disturbance had slightly shifted to the northwest and it was roughly around 600 km east-southeast of Chennai and 680 km south-southeast of Kakinada, which is a clear sign of the system's slow movement towards the Andhra coast.

The officials are expecting to see a range of heavy to very heavy rains along the coast and the adjoining districts in the next twenty-four hours.

🚨 IMD Alert: 23 Andhra Districts on High Warning

The IMD has declared a notice of a red alert in the following districts due to the high probability of extremely heavy rains:

SPSR Nellore

Prakasam

Bapatla

Krishna

West Godavari

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema

Kakinada

The other districts, apart from Anantapur, Kurnool, and Sri Sathya Sai, are on orange alert, which means they will experience “heavy to very heavy” rainfall.

🏖️ Security Increase In Coast Region

In the Prakasam district, the local police and coastal marine forces have imposed strict security measures at Kothapatnam Beach, restricting pilgrims from going into the sea for holy dips during Kartika Maasam, since the cyclone has resulted in strong winds and high tides.
